RFF 2002 Summer Internship Program

Resources for the Future (RFF), an independent nonprofit organization specializing in research, policy analysis and public education on environmental, energy and natural resource issues, has several paid summer internships for graduate and outstanding undergraduate students. The program is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens, provided the latter have proper work and residency documentation. Internships are available beginning in June and ending in late August for a 10-week assignment. To meet individual needs, some flexibility in the beginning and ending dates is possible to meet particular student needs. Students will earn a stipend ($375 per week for graduate students; $350 per week for undergraduates).

Each intern selected can expect to work with one or more RFF researchers on a variety of ongoing projects, or assist in the development of entirely new areas of research and policy analysis. RFF's three research divisions are Risk, Resource and Environmental Management (RREM), Energy and Natural Resources (ENR), and Quality of the Environment (QE). All three divisions seek highly motivated candidates in the social and natural sciences. For positions in ENR and QE, applicants should be trained in economics and quantitative methods. RREM is particularly interested in candidates with a strong interest in public policy. Candidates for all divisions should have outstanding policy analysis and writing skills, and an interest in complex environmental policy problems amenable to interdisciplinary analysis. The ability to work without supervision in a careful and conscientious manner is essential. Specific information about RFF's research program can be found on our website: http://www.rff.org.

No application form is required. Students applying for the 2002 internship program should send a cover letter describing their areas of interest and enclose a resume and a photocopy of a recent transcript. Applicants to RREM also should send a brief writing sample. The cover letter should be as specific as possible regarding research topics of interest. In addition, one letter of recommendation from a faculty member should be sent directly by the professor to RFF. Application materials must be postmarked or faxed to the division contact person listed below no later than March 15, 2002, with the deadline for faxed materials being 5:00 p.m., Eastern time.
