Piura is in the northern coastal desert of Peru. It is a place that is strongly affected by El Niño. The Piura data is provided by Norma Ordinola and Rodolfo Rodriguez of the Universidad de Piura, Perú.

Puerto Chicama is located at 8 degrees S on
the Peru coast. February through May average Piura river discharge
is correlated with Pto. Chicama and offshore ("Nino 1+2") SST
anomalies at 0.74
and 0.58, respectively, and with Tahiti SLP anomalies at -0.39 (1931-83, Deser and Wallace (1987, JGR).
