Several movies of a precipitation climatology are presented on this page. The input data is the merged Microwave Sounding Unit (MSU) ocean precipitation and Legates and Willmott land precipitation data sets. These data sets are described here.

The first two movies are derived from the precipitation climatology in monthly mean form, and as such the precipitation extremes always occur in the middle of the month. The remainder of the movies are based on a pentad precipitation climatology for the ocean estimates, and so the ocean precipitation contains more phase information than does the land precipitation.

Note: The following movies are all mpeg format.
